Acting co-chair of the of 2276 PPCLI Royal Canadian Army Cadets executive committee, local real estate agent Terry Isenbecker, believes he has found a permanent home for the cadets, and is seeking support to bring his dream of a permanent local home to fruition.Isenbecker has located a parcel of Crown Land on the shores of Charlie Lake that he believes would be a perfect location to build a camp for cadets, one that could also be used by other local community groups, such as North Peace Search and Rescue. With the assistance of Urban Systems, he has begun the process of applying to use and develop this parcel of land for the cadets, which has been dubbed Camp Charlie.Located on the eastern shore of Charlie Lake, near the Dressler Memorial Gun Range, the 4.5 acre parcel has year-round access via Sunnyside Drive, and although is currently covered in vegetation, is ideal for the Cadet Corps rural training. It includes a cliff-face down to the lake, which can be used to practice rappelling by groups such as North Peace Search and Rescue. Camp Charlie’s close proximity to Fort St. John means that the cadets will no longer have to drive over an hour to Camp Cameron, a journey which Isenbecker described as potentially hazardous in the winter months. In addition, there are emergency services in Fort St. John, a mere 10km away, should any of the groups which might wish to use it, need medical attention and is in the Charlie Lake Fire Protection Area.- Advertisement -The 2276 Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Royal Canadian Army Cadets (formerly known as the Rocky Mountain Ranger Cadets), has been helping local youth become better citizens since September 1946. The program is open to all girls and boys, aged 12 to 18 years. Currently there are 75 local youth enrolled, with a future goal of 100. The proposed Camp Charlie would have ample training and educational space for the cadets.Isenbecker is seeking community support for his proposal, in order to finalise and submit his application for a tenure lease of the property from the government. At the April 27 Regular Council meeting, Councillor Trevor Bolin recommended that Council write a letter supporting Isenbecker’s application for a tenure lease on the proposed Camp Charlie land.Below is a copy of the application provided to Fort St. John City Council.Advertisement
