first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram Six influential Greek Australian women will speak on the topic of ‘girls and education’ for the next upcoming Food for Thought network inspiring people series event in March. Professor Joy Damousi, professor Georgina Tsolidis, Dr Ann Mitsis, student Maree Skalistis, minister Jenny Mikakos and wife of the Greek ambassador to Australia, Eva Dafaranos have been booked on the panel to speak about their experience and give advice to fellow Greek Australian women.Alphington Grammar principal Vivianne Nikou will moderate the discussion, asking and contributing herself on questions such as what challenges the panel faced in getting recognised in their fields, what advice they’d give to aspiring young professionals and the benefits of entering an academic field. Three of the panellists come from strong academic backgrounds, with Melbourne University professor Joy Damousi being recently recognised for her world-class research into the history of child refugees in Australia, Ballarat University professor Georgina Tsolidis celebrating more than 30 years in education as a school teacher, policy analyst and researcher and Swinburne University’s Dr Ann Mitsis lecturing marketing to the next generation of brand strategists. As the first Greek Australian female minister in the Victorian government, Ms Mikakos has become a trailblazer for Greek Australian women entering politics, while Eva Dafaranos, wife of the Greek ambassador to Australia, has used her public life to become a patron of the arts and charitable organisations. As the youngest member of the panel, Maree Skalistis will speak on being the Victorian representative at The Hague International Model United Nations Conference. The ‘Girls and Education’ panel discussion will be held on March 8 at the Greek Centre of Contemporary Culture, 168 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, between 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm.
