Free transfers: Spurs, Arsenal and others to follow Liverpool’s lead?

first_img 7 Click the arrow to see more free transfers available for Premier League clubs – Liverpool look like landing former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes once he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury and passes a medical. Valdes will bring experience to the squad if he signs and would ensure healthy competition for the number one spot with Simon Mignolet, so talkSPORT looks at other decent players available for free… Mario Yepes (left) – He may be 38, but that hasn’t stopped the Colombian from being linked with a move to Arsenal. Yepes has played 102 time for his country and captained the side at the 2014 World Cup where the South Americans were eliminated by Brazil at the quarter-final stage. Any deal would be short term, though, but would cover the loss of Thomas Vermaelen. 7 Jonas – Tottenham have been linked with 30-year-old Jonas, a former team-mate of Roberto Soldado’s at Valencia. The Brazilian scored 38 goals across the two seasons he spent alongside Soldado, with the Spaniard scoring 57 in that time. Watch some of his goals here. 7 Liverpool are the front runners to sign free agent Victor Valdes. The former Barcelona goalkeeper has bags of experience, but he is not the only decent free agent out there.Tottenham, Arsenal, Leicester and QPR have both been linked with moves for players, who are available to move outside of the transfer window.Sadly for Basingstoke Town, who were recently linked with Ronaldinho, the Brazilian superstar was snapped up on a two-year deal by Mexican club Queretaro. However, there are plenty of others available, so click the arrow on the right to see them and let us know if your side could do with the extra help. 7 Hugo Almeida (right) – Almeida has been without a club since leaving Besiktas, with QPR, West Ham and Leicester all said to be interested. The 30-year-old has played 56 times for Portugal, scoring 19 goals and has also won two league titles with Porto, the German Cup with Werder Bremen and the Turkish Cup with Besiktas. Florent Malouda – There was apparent interest from English clubs when Malouda left Chelsea last summer, but in the end Trabzonspor signed him. However, the 34-year-old has now been released and is training with his first club, Ligue 2 side Chateauroux after reportedly being offered to Leicester and Crystal Palace. Diego Lugano (right) – If the rumours of Arsenal wanting some experienced cover in defence are true, then a younger option could be Diego Lugano, who last played for West Brom in the Premier League. At 33, the Uruguayan is vastly experienced following spells at Fenerbahce, PSG and Malaga. He also captained his country against Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup. 7 7 Joseph Yobo (right) – Yobo is best remembered in England for the eight years he spent at Everton between 2002 and 2010. He actually left the club in 2012 after spending two seasons on loan at Fenerbahce, who he eventually left the Toffees on a permanent basis for. At the 2014 World Cup he showed he is still capable of playing at a high level when he captained Nigeria to the last 16. 7last_img read more
