Vienna suspends cooperation with Airbnb

first_imgThe city of Vienna has announced the suspension of negotiations with Airbnb due to non-compliance with Austrian legislation. In Vienna, all renters of private accommodation for tourists, either directly or through online rental platforms, are required to pay a sojourn tax. For this purpose, renters must have a special account opened to which it is paid. The aim of the negotiations with Airbnb was to agree on the collection of fees directly from Airbnb and their forwarding to the City, writes Lider.mediaThe aim was to improve the control of the payment of sojourn taxes and to make it easier for renters to operate, so that in future data would be processed directly via the Internet from accommodation rental platforms. Airbnb rejected such a proposal, and the City decided to suspend negotiations due to non-compliance with Austrian legislation and the denial of the possibility of controlling earned sojourn taxes.”The city is not against the sharing economy. However, when a company does not respect Austrian law and is not ready to reach agreements on other issues, then we cannot successfully negotiate. ” said City Economy Councilor Peter Hanke.Villa Plama, Korcula / Photo: croatialuxuryrent.comIn addition to refusing to collect the sojourn tax, Airbnb also refused to provide the City with any information about its customers, such as whether a particular renter pays the sojourn tax. The termination of negotiations will not affect private renters who still have to comply with the legal obligation to open a special account for the payment of sojourn tax and send monthly statistical reports to the City.Following the termination of the negotiations, the City sent an official request to Airbnb to provide the requested user data within the legal deadline. In the event that Airbnb refuses to do so, the City will initiate administrative proceedings. Penalties for non-transmission data vary between 38 and 2100 euros per data.So far, the City of Vienna has reached agreements with 13 platforms for renting accommodation, and administrative proceedings have been initiated against five with which no agreement has been reached. In total, the City is in contact with 19 platforms, and is an example of good cooperation between city administrations and accommodation rental platforms. In addition, the City of Vienna is working to inform its own landlords who can find their rights and obligations on the City’s website. It is only a matter of time before other cities, ie states, wake up and seek cooperation according to the same model as in Vienna. It is simply a matter of regulating the payment of taxes in accordance with the law, which the landlords tried to avoid. This is by far the best example of how things should be regulated. Tax must be paid in each state, in accordance with the tax policy of each state. Thus, landlords must pay taxes in accordance with the Act, as well as all other entrepreneurs, who make money and sell their services or products. By direct cooperation with booking platforms, there is no blurring and everything is clear and transparent, so it is a win-win for everyone. The landlord who provides the accommodation service earns the booking platform its commission for connecting the buyer and the landlord and the state to which the tax was paid. In Croatia, this is regulated through the VAT ID number, and VAT is calculated only on the commission of booking pages.last_img read more

Powered by Firework Back in 2002, the cricketing world saw a miracle happen. India’s iconic bowler Anil Kumble was present at the field in a Test match against West Indies, but with a bandage around his face. Despite the grave injury, the veteran continued to perform on the pitch, setting example for the cricketing fans and future generation of sportsperson to follow. This was the very example India’s Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi used telling students how to deal with exams.Advertisement Image Courtesy: narendramodi.in/PTIOn Monday at ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020’, an event where our Honourable PM addressed students about the importance of examinations and how to use the best method for preparation, Anil Kumble’s memorable feat was mentioned.Kumble, who is now working as a coach and commentator past his career days, posted the video of PM Modi’s speech on the incident on his official Twitter handle. The 49 year old added a caption, expressing his gratitude to the PM for mentioning hisname, and also wished good to the students: “Honoured to have been mentioned in #ParikshaPeCharcha2020 Thank you Hon. Best wishes to everyone writing their exams.” Check out the clip below-Advertisement Addressing  the students in the event at Gyandeep Global School in Harlalpur, Uttarakhand, PM Modi remembered the Windies Test match, and Kumble’s heroic deed as an example on how to face examinations.“In 2002 we saw the Indian team went to play against West Indies. In that time, our brilliant bowler Anil Kumble was injured from a bouncer, and his whole jaw was broken, alot of bandages were used.”While batting in Antigua, Kumble was hit by the ball, and suffered a jaw fracture. While a surgery was immiment and everyone expected the superstar to be out for the rest of the series, a bandaged Kumble came out of the pavilion and went back onto the field. The PM continued: “Even if he didn’t play, the country wouldn’t have blamed him. But he decided ‘No, I have the courage. Its ok if there is pain,’ but no matter how much bandage was needed, he went back on the field.”Kumble’s miraculous deed didn’t just end there. The spinner continued to bowl for 14 overs, keeping the host batting lineup under pressure. And the moment that turned the match, was him getting the legendary BRian Lara’s wicket, sending him back to the dugout on just 4 runs with an LBW.“And with securing Brian Lara’s wicket, he changed the outcome of the whole match. Peace and calm returns to South Africa

first_img29 April 2015Peace and calm have returned to communities wracked by xenophobic violence in recent weeks, according to Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe, who sought to reassure the country and the world following the attacks on foreign nationals.“We want to reassure those who have plans to travel to South Africa that our government is in charge. The violence has stopped. We are now working hard to ensure that nobody within the borders of our country is victimised based on their country of origin,” Radebe said.He was speaking at the first Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) briefing on migration held in Pretoria on 28 April. The IMC was appointed by President Jacob Zuma to deal with the underlying causes of tension between communities and foreign nationals. The briefing was called after the president and various ministers consulted various organisations and sectors representing both South Africans and foreign nationals in the country following the earlier this month.Radebe said the government continued to actively support displaced foreign nationals in the country through provision of food, shelter and other necessities. The Department of Social Development was leading the intervention and psychosocial support had been provided to 812 individuals on site at the shelters.Trauma counselling“We encourage those who require counselling services to call 0800 428 428. The trauma counselling call centre is operational 24 hours a day.“We have so far provided 2 000 mattresses, food, blankets, dignity packs, baby formula and clothing items to displaced persons at the various shelters,” said Radebe, who is the chairperson of the IMC.The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) had set up a help desk to manage any enquiries and complaints from displaced persons at shelters. The social services department had also done an assessment at the temporary shelters in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng to establish the immediate needs of women and children.“Pregnant women and people with disabilities have been transferred to secure shelters. Retired social workers were also deployed to the temporary shelters to strengthen the psychosocial services.”Reintegration of displaced peopleRadebe said reports that some foreign nationals had begun to return to their communities were encouraging. “As the situation continues to stabilise, we call on foreign nationals who are still in shelters to work with the Department of Co- operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) and Community Safety to ensure a smooth reintegration process.”The IMC urged communities to open their arms to returning foreign nationals and to assist in their reintegration. Radebe said the return of displaced persons to their communities resulted in the official closure of Elsburg Shelter on 23 April.“Those who were not yet ready to be reintegrated have been accommodated at the Primrose Shelter.”The Department of Health closely monitored, co-ordinated and delivered health and medical services to foreign nationals in any area needed as well as at the temporary shelters. Services available included emergency medical services, primary health care services, communicable diseases control, environmental health services, health promotion, forensic pathology services and mental health services.Documentation of foreignersRadebe said foreign nationals who were in the country illegally were either detained for prosecution or deportation by the Department of Home Affairs, and the department was helping displaced people to verify their status. “In cases where the displaced persons have no documentation or they are in the country illegally, the department still captures their details. Their information and fingerprints are captured in order to provide documentation to facilitate their repatriation.”He said the Department of Home Affairs was working closely with foreign missions in South Africa to ensure the smooth repatriation of those wanted to return voluntarily to their home countries.“We have thus far repatriated a total of 1 997 undocumented migrants from both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng temporary shelters, 911 to Malawi, 316 to Mozambique, 753 to Zimbabwe, and 17 to Tanzania.”He said about 1 507 documented people were awaiting repatriation and the government would continue to engage with their missions to ensure a smooth process.A lasting solutionThe government was committed to finding a lasting solution to the problem to prevent the shameful attacks from happening again, said Radebe.“We believe that issues of migration can only be resolved by taking a holistic approach that deals with all issues highlighted by communities. This includes identifying and resolving challenges highlighted by local traders.”The Ministry of Small Business Development had also been tasked with identifying the issues that were relevant to small business.Despite the events of the past weeks, Africans from other countries still considered South Africa a safe place to visit, Radebe said, adding that in March, 10 548 people from Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe visited South Africa. The republic had welcomed 13 533 people from the same countries from the beginning of April to date.“We are heartened that our brothers and sisters on the continent still consider our country a multicultural society that welcomes and promotes interaction among people of different backgrounds.”Source: SANews.govlast_img read more

Finally, HTC Delivers A Decent Android Device For Verizon

first_imgLast week, a friend of mine called from the Verizon store. His girlfriend was looking for a new smartphone and wanted my opinion on what she should get. The choices were the iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S III and, “something from HTC.”I cringed. HTC has not had a desirable device on Verizon for a long time. The option presented was the Rezound, the successor to the flawed Thunderbolt and already a year old. When asked if she should consider the Rezound, my response was, “oh god, no.”Verizon is the largest cellular carrier in the United States – and the one that sells the highest proportion of Android devices. The fact that HTC has had nothing worth worth buying on the carrier for basically all of 2012 has been a major problem for HTC.The Droid Incredible 4G LTE was an also-ran device for HTC on Verizon, a reprise of a past hit updated for 4G LTE. Verizon passed on HTC’s flagship One series – it went to AT&T. Sprint remodeled the One X to be the EVO 4G LTE. Verizon stuck with its aging HTC models even as it released new devices from the likes of Motorola and Samsung.About Time For A New HTC PhoneOn Tuesday, HTC finally announced a new top-of-the-line smartphone, exclusive to Verizon. The Droid DNA is a 5-inch Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device that HTC dubs as “the ultimate smartphone.” It’s screen packs a pixel per inch rate of 440 (quite a bit higher than the iPhone’s 326 ppi), an 8 megapixel camera, Beats Audio with a 2.55 volt headset amplifier, 2020 mAh battery and a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor. The Droid DNA will run HTC’s Sense 4 Android skin on top of Jelly Bean. It will be available for $199 on a two-year contract from Verizon starting Nov. 21.  dan rowinski Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces The 5-inch screen may be a touch excessive for some, but otherwise the DNA is everything an Android fan might want from a smartphone. Whether or not it lives up to HTC’s marketing blather,  “the ultimate smartphone” is indeed quality competitor on Verizon. That’s critical for a comany whose numbers have been abysmal over the last two quarters. HTC’s revenue in the third quarter was 23% down from the second quarter and 48% down from Q3 2011. The manufacturer has not gained traction with the One X or the Evo 4G LTE, and the lack of a decent option on Verizon has been even more damning. The most lucrative market of Android users in the U.S. has been essentially lost to HTC for the better part of 12 months. Will the Droid DNA be enough to reverse HTC’s downward trend? Not entirely. This holiday shopping season has more great mobile devices to choose from than ever before. But expanding its distribution channels with high quality devices has to be one of HTC’s first priorities as it begins climbing back towards the top of the smartphone ladder. The Droid DNA is a good step in that direction.  Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Related Posts Tags:#Android#HTC#smartphone#verizon The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technologylast_img read more
